August Wrap-Up

The summer days of August are coming to an end.  What a wonderful summer we have had so far!

Everything has become a balance beam to this little explorer.

I love catching the sleeping positions, and I love how Noah is totally relaxing!

Caught Noah watching the rain come down from the patio door.
He was in awe of the splashing rain drops as they "jumped" on the deck.

Hannah wanted pigtails, his first attempt!

We walked around MSU campus today and fed the ducks.  They are super-crazy-aggressive!

Goodbye August and hello September, we have a very anxious little girl ready to celebrate her birthday!

Wedding on Long Lake

We had the pleasure of attending John's cousin Cailin's wedding in Alpena over this lovely Michigan weekend in August.  We headed up on Friday morning so we could spend some time outside moving the kids around before they needed to just go to bed.  The drive was about 4 hours, so they welcomed the chance to run around and play in the fresh air.

We ate lunch at a delicious burger place downtown, then walked along the water of Lake Huron.  It was a gorgeous day to be outside!  The kids enjoyed playing in this little park and chasing the ducks around.

We finished up the evening swimming in the indoor pool at the hotel, both kids LOVED being in the water.  It is always a bonus having a pool,  makes for some good sleeping for the kiddos! (well Hannah anyway...Noah is a stinker)

Saturday was wedding day, and what a beautiful day it was!  Cailin and Mark couldn't have asked for a better day. The ceremony was in town and reception was held at her parents house (John's uncle and aunt) that sits on Long Lake.  Their house is gorgeous!  And the reception was set-up so beautiful, it fit the bride and grooms' personality perfectly!

I will let the pictures speak for themselves:

Noah 8 Months

8 Months old!  This special little man is growing so fast and is such a wonderful addition to our family.

Take a look at this smiley little boy!  He is always happy to see us, always smiling, and that cute smile is very contagious.

Mr Noah has had an eventful month. On one of John's work trips out of town, Noah decided to catch a lovely summer cold.  He was terribly congested and snotty, fevers, and a bad appetite.  This warranted a trip to the pedi as he started wheezing, retracting, and having a difficult time breathing. In the pedi office, the NP gave us around-the-clock nebulizer treatments and graciously invited us back for a visit the next day. She was worried about needing a hospitalization, so we were hoping to avoid this step if necessary.  It was a long, not fun evening, but thankfully at the next day's appointment, Noah was slowly sounding better and not wheezing as much.  Although he did have double ear infections requiring some antibiotics.  No hospitalization needed, but we needed to call and give report to the pedi staff for the remainder of the weekend and the info would be passed to the on call doctor.  If they were concerned they could call me back, but if not, we were okay to continue with breathing treatments and finish the antibiotics.  It was a slow recovery, but Noah was a trooper and made it through smooth sailing, even with a few smiles on his face.

Noah has really started crawling and moving around.  He is completely crawling and has forgotten about the little army crawl business he started out doing.  Once he sets his eyes on something, he is on the move.  This new-found moving freedom has brought out the over-protective sister in Hannah.  She has started "hoarding" toys on the couch so Noah can't reach them.  This didn't last very long because Noah figured out how to pull himself up to stand by the couch and is now reaching for things.  Noah is so proud of himself when he stands, he looks around and smiles.  He is a funny little boy!

Noah has also started interacting with us more. He starts clapping when we say "yea!" and loves to hear the noise his hands make when he claps. He is also starting to wave. He doesn't quite move his fingers, but holds his arm/hand up.  He is becoming more interested in his books, but still wants to eat them more than see what's on the pages.

Noah has become quite the little eater. He loves all food so far, except squash, that one he doesn't seem to enjoy.  He loves all fruits too and certainly scarfs those up pretty quickly.  He loves his puffs and snatches them up into his mouth as fast as he can.  He has figured out that if he slams his hands on the highchair the puffs move closer to him.  We constantly are picking up the puffs because he loves watching them fly all over when he slams the highchair.

Noah is still working on his teeth, we haven't seen any poking through yet. But he certainly is a drooling machine!  And everything goes from his hands and into his mouth, constantly gnawing on a toy. That must feel good rubbing against his gums.  He likes to suck on the cold, gel toys we put in the fridge, and the cool must feel good on these warmer days as well. Hopefully we see something pearly poking through soon!

Noah is an okay sleeper.  He wakes rather frequently, cries a little bit, we give him his paci, and he typically falls back to sleep. We have discovered that he does not like to sleep in a pack and play.  For whatever reason, he wakes WAYY too much in those and is not a happy little man if we try to make him CIO.  In addition to the pack and play business, he also does not like to sleep anywhere other than at home. He does pretty terrible when we stay overnight anywhere.  He must really love his bed!! But Hannah was pretty similar, she preferred to sleep in her room at home as well. Kids are certainly creatures of habit.

Here are my 2 favorite kiddos in the whole world!!  These two make my heart so happy :)

6th Wedding Anniversary

John and I celebrated our 6th anniversary in Grand Rapids this year.  We were able to leave the kids with the in-laws and enjoy some much needed time to ourselves.

We checked into the hotel around noon and immediately headed to Founder's for some lunch and my favorite beer - Oatmeal Stout!  We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed delicious food and some pretty tasty beer.  Once we were done, we walked around downtown and enjoyed the beautiful weather.  We stopped at another bar where we got to try some Perrin beer.  It was our first time and it was rather delicious.

After a few drinks and some wandering around, it seemed like a good idea to take a nap :)  This is truly a luxury when you don't have your kids around!  When we got back to the hotel, we found a lovely little present from the hotel.  What a nice gesture from the staff.  When we were checking in, they asked why we were here and we mentioned it was our anniversary.  So this was a nice surprise and a very thoughtful thing to do.

Feeling refreshed and re-energized, and after enjoying a little bubbly, we headed back out to enjoy the night.  We walked to City Flats to have a drink there.  We chatted with the bar tender and she invited us to go check out a wedding taking place in the ballroom.  What a beautiful event!  What a beautiful venue!  I tried to get John to wedding crash and at least have a free drink, but he wouldn't take the bait.  We walked to Grand Rapids Brewing Company to get some food and try out the beer there.  Cassie and Dale  met up with us here.  After a few beverages, they took us around to a few more places.  What a whirlwind, but a fun time!  I felt like a 21 year old again :)
We tried to finish off the night back at Founder's, but once we got there, the place was packed and we would have to wait.  I made the executive decision to John that I was hungry, tired, and ready to call it a night.  John and I grabbed a snack at BW3 then headed back to the hotel to sleep uninterrupted!

We woke the next morning (after sleeping in!) ready to see our kiddos again.  It was truly a fun time spent together, but we both agreed that is seemed weird not having them around.

I'm so thankful for my husband.  I tell him all the time that I don't know what I would do without him and I honestly mean it.  Life would be pretty boring without him by my side.  He is my best friend, my biggest fan, my support system, my rock, and my partner-in-crime.  He is stuck with me forever, and I hope he doesn't mind.

Not a day goes by where I don't thank my lucky stars for John being placed into my life.  We have created something special as a family so far, and I am thankful for the wonderful memories we've made and look forward to the future with John by my side.
